Why does my result differ from my ISP's advertised speed?

Advertised speeds are maximums under ideal conditions. Real-world throughput depends on server distance, Wi-Fi, network congestion, and your router.

Under 20 ms feels instant, 20–60 ms is fine for most uses, 60–150 ms is usable but noticeable in video calls and games, and over 150 ms is slow.

Why are tests bursty at the start?

TCP slow-start takes a second or two to ramp up. The speed you see at the end of the run is closer to your sustained throughput.
